Grading

  • DAILY PARTICIPATION: Students will receive daily grades for being in their seat ready to tune when the bell rings, having all of their supplies, and on conducting themselves in a manner that is appropriate for a rehearsal.  Participation is mandatory each day.  Forgetting their instrument or supplies, Chewing gum, talking, and inattentiveness will result in the loss of daily points.

  •  TESTS: There will be written and playing tests daily, throughout the year.   Their completion will be considered participation.  There will be assigned playing tests on material being prepared in class, technical skill tests, and written tests to promote mastery. These tests are all part of the overall plan to help each student reach an appreciation of music as well as an appropriate performance level.  The "Stringed Ninja Program" is a way for the students to achieve "belts" for their mastery of the song or written test.   For each written/playing test performed perfectly, the student will earn a "belt" of a certain color (see details below)

  • PRACTICING AT HOME: Practicing is essential for the success of your student.  The suggested amount of time is:

    • 20 minutes of practice per night.

    •  Practice cards will not be given for grades, but the students must be able to perform the skills needed in class.

    • Starting healthy practice habits are suggested at the beginner level.

  • Concert Attendance:  Concert attendance is mandatory.  Public performance is a major part of learning instrumental music.   The students must have the opportunity to demonstrate what they have worked so hard to prepare.

Private Lesson

Private Lessons are a great way for the students to get one-on-one instruction.  If your student is serious about instrumental music, I would advise to start lessons as-soon-as possible.  Lesson can reinforce what I am teaching in class, and push them to the next level.   Music stores in the area such as Senseney and Starkey offer private lesson.  Colleges such as WSU or Friends have college students who can be great teachers and are always needing a little extra cash.  I also have extensive lists of private teachers in the area.  Just contact me if you would like any further information.
