Supplies

All members of the Haysville Beginning Orchestras must have:

Essential Elements 2000- Book 1

(They are available at any music store for around $8.99)

Violins/Violas- Must have should rests ( to keep their instruments on their shoulders)  ($15-25)

Cellos/Basses- Must have rockstops (to keep the instrument from sliding away from them) ($5-15)

**Rosin is also needed.  Without the rosin, the bows will not make a sound ($2-10)

**Pencils and cleaning rags will be needed in class

**Folding-stands are optional, but a good idea for home practice

Once purchased, the student should be able to use the shoulder rests, rock stops, rosin, and folding- stands for their entire playing careers.

Obtaining an Instrument

The best time to choose an instrument would be at the Instrument Try-out nights.  We will have Senseney and Starkey  Music available to have the students try-out each instrument, get the correct size for each instrument, and the supplies will also be available to buy at that time.

However, if you don't make it to the open house- that's ok!

Instruments can be found at any of the following stores:

McHugh Violin Shop

2726 Boulevard Plaza

(316) 681-2925

Tuesday-Friday 9:00 am-5:30 pm

Saturday 9:00am- 2:00pm

Instruments can also be found on places likes craigslist, facebook, estate sales, pawnshops etc.  However, if you are buying an instrument that is not from a certified instrument dealer, please take the instrument to a music store or bring it to myself to verfy the worth of the instrument.

**Instruments of different colors (purple, blue etc)  will not be allowed in class due to the lack of quality of these instruments.  They are also not allowed in professional orchestras.

HAYSVILLE RENTAL PROGRAM

The Haysville School District does have a few instruments that can be rented for the student for one school year.  Our goal is to include all students in our music programs.  Please contact me for more information if you are interested in this option.
